Elias, 25, has made 44 appearances this year, all in relief. He has pitched to a 4.40 ERA in 47 innings with 45 strikeouts and a 1.255 WHIP. He has an 8.00 ERA in 11 games in July. Of note, his reverse splits are drastic, allowing right-handed hitters to a .182 average with a .579 OPS and left-handed hitters to a .353 average against with a .990 OPS.
Guilbeau, 26, is the headliner here. The 15th ranked prospect in the Nationals system according to MLB.com, Guilbeau has a future in a major league bullpen at some point.
Elias is under team control until 2022, making him not only someone who can help the bullpen this year, but also several years down the road. A reliever with his contract and potential was greatly needed for the Nationals.
